Lamb Jalfrezi Recipe


  • ½ Kilo ------------------------ Lamb shoulder, trimmed and chopped 
  • ½ Liter ----------------------- Tomato gravy
  • 2 tbsp ------------------------ Vegetable oil
  • 4 pieces --------------------- Chillies, chopped
  • 1 tsp -------------------------- Cumin seeds
  • 4 cloves ---------------------- Garlic, sliced
  • 1 tsp --------------------------- Salt or as per taste
  • 4 pieces ---------------------- Fresh tomatoes, chopped
  • ½ tsp -------------------------- turmeric powder

Jalfrezi Fry

  • ½ tsp -------------------------- Salt
  • 1 tbsp -------------------------- Vegetable oil
  • 1 piece ------------------------- Onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 piece ------------------------- Red pepper, cut into chunks
  • 1 piece ------------------------- Green pepper, cut into chunks
  • 1 tsp ---------------------------- Cumin seeds
  • 1 piece ------------------------- Tomato, chopped into chunks
  • 2 whole ------------------------- Chillies, chopped
  • 1 tsp ----------------------------- Garam masala


  1. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, chilli and garlic and fry them til it turns lightly browned.
  2. Put the chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric and then cook it as the tomatoes mashed to make a thick gravy.
  3. Put the lamb and stir in it to well-coated the all pieces. Lower the the heat and covered the lid on the pan and leave to cook for half an hour on very low heat or wait until it's become soft and tender. 
  4. Take another pan and heat some oil, put cumin seeds and fried as its fragrant comes out.
  5. Now add in the chunky onions and peppers, tomato and the chilli then stir well and fry it.
  6. Cook these as much as its gravy reduced or as you like. Add and stir the garam masala and fried vegetable mix. 
  7. Now the lamb is cooked and ready to serve, it is best with boiled rice or as you like.
