Mirchi Ka Salan Recipe in Urdu


  • Green chillies big 18-20
  • Sesame seeds (til) 2 tablespoons
  • Olive oil 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander seeds 2 tablespoons
  • Dry red chilies 2
  • Peanuts roasted 1/2 cup
  • Garlic 6-8
  • Ginger roughly chopped 1 inch piece
  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Onion grated 1 medium
  • Curry leaves 8-10
  • Tamarind pulp 2 tablespoons
  • Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste



  1. Wash, wipe green chillies and then silt them lengthwise without cutting the chillies into two. Heat sufficient olive oil in a kadai (wok) and deep-fry for atleast one minute.
  2. Drain and place on absorbent paper and set aside. To make masala paste, coriander seeds, dry roast sesame seeds and cumin seeds.
  3. Cool and grind them to a paste along with peanuts, whole dry ginger, red chillies and garlic.
  4. In a pan, heat two tablespoons oil, add mustard seeds, let themsplutter and add curry leaves. Sauté for half a minute and add onion.
  5. Sauté, stirring continuously, till onion gets light golden brown. Add turmeric powder and mix well. Add masala paste and cook for about three minutes, stirring constantly.
  6. Stir in one and a half cups of water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook it for about ten minutes.
  7. Add tamarind pulp (dissolved in half a cup of water, if it is too thick). Add fried salt and green chillies and then cook on low heat for about eight to ten minutes. Serve hot.
